May 2012May 5Once Upon a Time…Tea Spend the afternoon with friends and family for tea filled with memories of classic children's storybooks. This afternoon tea is perfect to bring your daughters and granddaughters to while enjoying Republic of Tea tea. This tea will include petite scones, Devonshire cream and jam, delicious tea sandwiches, homemade desserts, and more! For our smaller guests attending we will have plenty of treats perfect for their palates. Reservations Required. May 6Blessings of the Bikes Stop by Starved Rock Lodge's East parking lot and have your motorcycle blessed by local clergy in one of two ceremonies. The blessings remind us that life is a journey and we need to ask for God's protection. A great kick-off for biking season! May 7Legacy Girls – 50's & 60's Show Take a trip back to the 50's & 60's and get ready to rock to the songs that shaped the decades! From the Supremes to the Chordettes, and the Beatles to Elvis Presley, The Legacy Girls will bring their own sassy style to all your favorites. Matinee (lunch & show) May 12Tulip Festival Featuring hundreds of tulips through the garden with punch and cookies served in Luther Hall. May 14Tom Jones & Company John Truncali will start the show with hits from the Rat Pack, Ray Charles, Frankie Valli, even Garth Brooks. After intermission John Truncali will return so you can rediscover the hits that made Tom Jones famous, It's Not Unusual, Delilah, She's a Lady plus many more. Matinee (lunch & show) May 17Spring Dinner Lecture: The Radium Dial Girls Spend an evening hearing the tragic tale of the "Radium Dial Girls" and the story behind the Ottawa memorial honoring these young women. Speaker Madeline Piller is a native of LaSalle County and a sophomore at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Her passion for the Radium Dial Girls began in seventh grade during a history fair project. She has been the driving force behind the creation of a memorial to the Radium Dial Girls in Ottawa, IL. Dinner features a choice of two entrees, salad, soup, and dessert. A cash bar will be available. Reservations Required. May 18Outdoor Woman Workshop Trade your to-do list for a weekend for yourself and your friends. Ever wanted to pull back a bow and shoot an arrow? How about the proper way to paddle a raft or saddle a horse? This is a 3-day fun-filled weekend where women from all over will gather and learn untraditional skills in a non-threatening environment. Below is a list of workshops that will be offered. Archery, basic fishing, bird watching & wildflowers, backpacking, boating safety, firearm safety, fly-fishing & tying, garden mosaics, geologic walk of Starved Rock State Park, basic horsemanship, nature crafts, photography, outdoor cooking, outdoor survival, rafting, tree identification, upland bird hunting, medicinal & edible plants, and women with power tools. In addition to the workshops, 6 meals and 2 nightly activities and transportation to all workshops are included. Advance sign up and registration are necessary for all three days. May 1910th Annual Earlville Cruise Night DJ, food, park and playground for the kids, 50/50 raffle, booths, t-shirts, old-fashioned fun! After intermission Sheri will come on stage portraying Connie Frances with her famous songs such as "Where the Boys Are", "Who's Sorry Now" and "Lipstick on Your Collar". Enjoy a historic trolley ride with stops at the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center where you will see a short video of the area. You will also travel to the Illinois Waterway Visitor Center where you will see Starved Rock from across the river and watch as the river traffic lock through the locks. You will also travel through the village of Utica and hear about the Illinois and Michigan Canal. While aboard, the driver will narrate the history and legends of the area. MondaysWaterfall and Canyon Tour Experience the fun of outdoor adventure at Starved Rock State Park with a guided walk to 3 spectacular waterfalls and canyons. We will plan to visit French, St. Louis and Ottawa Canyons. The tour will also include your selection from our Special Lunch Menu and a relaxing historical trolley ride. FridayCanal Boat & Trolley Tours Join us for the newest history tour that Starved Rock Lodge has to offer. Start off with a delicious Hot Lunch Buffet in the rustic dining room at Starved Rock Lodge. Next, board one of our trolleys for a ride to our State Park's Visitor Center. Your trolley will also take you on a relaxing ride to the New Canal Boat located in LaSalle. Step back in time with period dressed interpreters on this 1-hour mule-pulled canal boat ride. SaturdaysWaterfall and Canyon Tour Experience the fun of outdoor adventure at Starved Rock State Park with a guided walk to 3 spectacular waterfalls and canyons.
